A series of works inspired by my personal struggle with eating disorders and the rise in diet culture in the modern day. How these ideas of extreme dieting can be seen as a form of internalized mysogeny as there is a consistent attempt to appeal to societies standards of beauty. Being 'skinny' and appearing malnourished, although not a criteria to be diagnosed with an eating disorder is the goal many people who struggle with this condition strive to achieve. These pieces are a comment to this attempt to conform to the unrealistic, and in some cases life threatening beauty standards of today, and how although society has progressed in some ways many appearance ideals from the past are still engrained in women in the modern day. Furthermore, many people (not solely women) who struggle with eating disorders get influenced by past forms of extreme dieting, either by their parents or other gaurdian figures in their lives. These works attempt to demonstrate how beauty standards, dieting and conformation is generational built upon ideas that the media has built decades ago. The advertising element of the works is constructed based not only how the media promotes dieting but also the aggressive way people who struggle with eating disorders talk to themselves.
